Ballangi is an emerging Italian brand that specializes in the development and production of preventative hair-loss products. The company distinguishes itself through its innovation and use of all-natural ingredients, with formulations that are 98% naturally derived. Through its signature line, VitalCrinis, Ballangi connects directly with consumers seeking effective, ethical, and science-backed solutions for long-term hair health.
Initial Situation
The primary objective of this project was to develop a comprehensive business model plan to support Ballangi’s participation in subsidized finance tenders. Additionally, the company requested a market analysis of the Italian haircare and anti-hair loss sectors. The findings would later be used to develop new marketing strategies, identify differentiation opportunities, and strengthen Ballangi’s competitive positioning in the market.

Utilizing secondary sources, the JEME team conducted a comprehensive and data-driven analysis that consisted of multiple stages:
- A Preliminary Analysis focused on understanding the client’s business model, objectives, and market context. Key industry drivers were assessed to identify the most relevant positioning opportunities for Ballangi.
- A Demand Analysis was divided into two essential markets for the client: haircare and anti-hair loss segments within Italy. For each, the research examined market dynamics, identifying the main trends, growth drivers, client demographics, and summarizing the key takeaways from each segment. This was complemented by a distribution channel study, highlighting the growing relevance of e-commerce for the client.
- An Offer Analysis was then conducted, examining 6 main competitors in terms of their product portfolios, marketing approaches, and areas of operation. The findings highlighted the best practices and strategic insights that could be applicable to support Ballangi’s positioning in the market.
- Building on the previous analyses, a Business Model Analysis was developed to structure Ballangi’s strategic approach, providing actionable plans targeted towards improving value creation, proposition, delivery, and capture. The Business Model Canvas was utilized to summarize the offering of the company and explain its key resources, activities, and partners in a comprehensive way.
- A detailed Financial Analysis was conducted to assist Ballangi in its funding process. This included the creation of detailed assumptions on the performance of each of their current product lines, as well as future ones. This resulted in making five-year projections for the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow of the company.
- Finally, the JEME team compiled a Microcredit Application for Ballangi, describing the company’s business, value proposition, and why it is positioned to grow in the upcoming years. Moreover, the financial forecasts were used to showcase the financial promise and stability of Ballangi to the relevant stakeholders.
