Lundbeck is a multinational pharmaceutical company present in more than 100 countries, and it specialises in treating psychiatric and neurological disorders. They wanted to investigate the evolution of the Italian healthcare market to determine whether it is more convenient to enter into an agreement with the public or private sector, with an additional focus on the insurance-funded healthcare market.
JEME’s Contribution
Our team, composed of a project manager and 4 consultants, supported Lundbeck in defining its commercial strategy by conducting an in-depth market analysis and forecasting future trends.
The findings, based on the primary and secondary resources, were documented and organized into 3 distinct sections:
- Secondary Sources Analysis – Our team began by analysing 4 pathologies (migraine, schizophrenia, alcohol dependence, and depression disorders) and the markets for their corresponding drugs. Then, 3 additional reference markets (public, private, and private insurance), as well as recent trends and fluctuations, were inspected.
- Offer Analysis – In this section, 4 case studies were selected, and the corresponding initiatives were assessed on 3 dimensions: the feasibility of implementing them in the Italian market, the market opportunity they represent for Lundbeck’s business, and the priority of their enactment.
- Primary Sources and Demand Analysis – Some catalysts in the healthcare market were identified in order to summarise which elements Lundbeck could find interesting to explore in each of the reference markets.
Further, our team conducted 8 interviews with academics and experts from the consulting, public entity, and insurance field.
- The questionnaire was composed of both respondent-specific questions and standard ones, aimed at quantifying the trends in healthcare spending.
- Each interviewee could assign a score from 1 to 5 to each question regarding spending forecasts.
- Lastly, the findings were quantitatively analysed for each of the pathologies in focus, and the results were later summarised in a comprehensive report.
JEME’s Impact
The final report developed by the JEME team offers a detailed market analysis, integrating the research of both primary and secondary resources and providing practical applications, relevant case studies, and actionable forecasts.
The forecasts have been based on quantitative estimating and factor analysis of the interview results, thus providing the client with comprehensive and sound predictions of future trends in reference markets – the project’s primary goal.
Once again, working with big corporations, JEME has been able to contribute to the expansion strategy of a multinational company worth more than €5 billion, which has also proven to be an exciting development opportunity for JEME’s Associates.
