Over the past decade, the Italian asset management industry has experienced significant growth and change, influenced by evolving economic conditions, regulatory changes, and an increasing focus on sustainable investment strategies. These developments have contributed to the industry’s continued importance in managing increasing amounts of retail investments and institutional investments. The sector has adapted to new market dynamics, with a growing emphasis on diversifying with alternative investment strategies and responding to shifts in investor preferences.
This article, realized in partnership with Deloitte and drawing on research from Bocconi University’s Finance Department, offers a comprehensive market analysis of the current dynamics shaping Italy’s asset management sector. JEME has previously collaborated with Deloitte on research initiatives and another White Paper, highlighting a shared commitment to exploring key asset management industry trends.
It explores how the industry has evolved in 2023 due to the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors and the impact of persistent inflation, which have redefined investment strategies and market behavior. Our findings are informed by extensive secondary data and the expertise of esteemed Bocconi professors, including Andrea Beltratti, Davide Maspero, and Giuseppe Leo Corvino, whose insights into finance and macroeconomic trends provide a solid foundation for understanding the challenges and opportunities facing Italy’s asset management industry today.
